Money Saving Tips

There are simple things you can do that will save you money.

1) Cut the cost of your home energy bills

It will amaze you that every year you should be able to switch between home energy companies and save money. If it’s the first time you have done it you could save £300. Nothing changes other than who you pay each month (and it will be less) and your new supplier will take care of the formalities.

2. Do you need all those TV channels?

Lets be honest, what does your digital hd etc service cost you a month? Freeview and Freesat, are free. Choose wisely.

3. Get Online Discount

If you are going to buy it then look online for a voucher code to save you money off your purchase.

4. Learn to say 'no'

  • Say “No” to your kids wanting more toys, sweets, junk food.
  • Say “No” to your mates a quick drink after work then becomes a session.
  • Say “No” when you’re under pressure and think if you can really afford it.

5. When was the last time you went to your local market?

Use your local market stall, you should find that prices in the market are cheaper than the Supermarkets for fruit and Veg and that once you know the stallholder over time you’ll get even better prices and bargains.

6. Manage your credit card

Credit Card debt is nasty, if you are paying your minimum balance each month then you could be paying 20% on the balance that you don’t pay off. Not cheap finance. So to make sure you don’t over spend lower your credit limit with your provider and always pay off your monthly balance.

7. Consider own-brand goods

Brands spend millions on advertising to convince us that their products are better than cheaper alternatives. A lot of the time the brand manufacture will also make the supermarket own label product. Own label products are cheaper and the quality is generally good as the supermarket wouldn’t risk putting their own name to it otherwise.

8. Ask yourself: do I really need this?

Imagine. It's lunchtime and you’re bored. You find yourself in a shop, there's a sale on of winter clothing, you have two coats already and the season is moving into spring/summer you pick up a beautifully new thick winter coat, its half price. Now, stop! Ask yourself: Do I really need this? Exactly! Now, put it down and walk away. Each time, DO I REALLY NEED THIS?

9. Make a shopping list

Simply make a shopping list and stick to it, don’t be seduced by 3 for 2 offers, buy one get one free offers, ignore them, these products sit in your cupboards for months, only buy what’s on your list, what you need.

10. End of Contract – Compare Prices

Your broadband deal ended, your mobile phone deal ended, you’re out of contract on your home phone, your car insurance is going to auto renew and the quote seems high! By not using an online comparison site each time you risk paying a lot more than you need too.
